For early stage Age-related Macular Degeneration, Low Powered Hand-held  Magnifiers, Stand Magnifiers, Dome and Bar Magnifiers, Spectacle-mounted Magnifiers and Electronic Magnifiers used with good lighting can be helpful.  For recommendations  for more specific tasks see the sections on near and distance tasks above.

For advanced stage Age-related Macular Degeneration, high powered Hand-held Magnifiers can be helpful for short near vision tasks.  Stand Magnifiers are better for longer more extended tasks.  High powered telescopes can be good for short term tasks with special near vision telescopes available and both Distance Telescopes and Binoculars being good for spotting tasks such as reading bus signs.  Electronic    Magnifiers with their varied magnifications can be good for a variety of tasks.
