Choosing Low Vision Aids

To decide on your low vision aid the first stage is to set out

  1. What tasks you want to perform
  2. Whether you want to see things near to you or in the distance
  3. How long you want to be able to view for
  4. Whether the task needs both hands to be carried out

    To assess the power of low vision aid you need use the Magnification Wizard Chart as   
    a  starting point for your choice of power.  Select the appropriate line of text and power
    that  improves your vision.  Clicking on the magnification power will provide you with the
    selection of vision aids which have the power you need. 
 
    The following questions will help you in selecting the magnifying aids which will be most     
    appropriate for the tasks you want to undertake.  Click on the highlighted words for
    further options and information.
 1.    What tasks do you want to be able to do?
  • Near tasks?  (These are usually carried out at reading distance e.g. 50cm or less, or may be at arms length such as 50-100cm – looking at a computer screen, playing cards or other hobbies).

  • Distance tasks?  (These could be watching TV, watching sports matches,  reading signs).
