Bringing portability to scanning and reading.  The Pearl^TM Portable Reading Solution with Open Book from Sight and Sound Technology brings blind and low vision users instant portable access to printed material with an array of human-sounding voices. The folding camera deploys in seconds to connect to your PC and snap a picture of your reading material.

The Pearl^TM has many features for those with macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other causes of low vision. It’s easy to tailor the appearance of text on the screen (font style, size, character spacing, and colour), view with split-screen and compare your original document and OCR conversion results as well as use Masking and Word Spotlighting to help you follow the text as it is read.

The Pearl^TM expands the features of OpenBook 9.0 to provide instant OCR. Just press a keystroke to snap a picture, and hear your book read back to you with Eloquence or one of the human-sounding voices from RealSpeak Solo Direct®. You control the reading rate and voice.

In automatic mode, the Pearl^TM senses motion, so it knows to snap an image whenever you turn a page. Place your paperback novel sideways, and the Pearl^TM will snap two pages at a time and maintain the pagination. For larger books, you can capture even pages first. Flip the book over to capture the odd pages. You can keep turning pages and capturing images while OpenBook reads.

The Pearl^TM Scanning and Reading Machine can be used to read books, newspapers, magazines, and bills. OpenBook identifies columns and places them in logical reading order. Change the language setting to read foreign language documents with native speaker voices.

Once your page has been captured, you have multiple options for viewing the information. You can display the text so that it wraps on the screen, enlarge the font, change the font style, and change the foreground and background colours as well as having the individual words spotlighted as they are spoken. 

All smaller items (up to 7kg) are delivered for free in the UK using First Class post (Articles for the Blind) and are normally delivered in 1 to 3 days.

For larger items (such as desktop electronic magnifiers) a courier is used for delivery, which costs £10 to £20+VAT, depending on the size and weight. Delivery costs will be calculated during the checkout process before you enter any payment details

Overseas and trade deliveries are charged at cost, which will be calculated once you have entered your delivery address.
